Qmail
From Qmail Info Wiki
qmail is a mail transfer agent, or mail server package, written by Dr. Daniel J. Bernstein. It was written with two goals in mind: security and speed.
qmail by itself is indeed very fast and very secure. However, it doesn't have a lot of features which are needed by modern mail servers. Its only built-in anti-spam mechanism involves refusal to relay based on the recipient's domain name. As a result, there have been many patches written which add various features to the program.
