Virus Removal – Cleaning
Up
Of all the computer problems that most people have had to deal with since the advent of the
Internet, being infected by one of the thousands of viruses that have flooded the Internet is probably the worst
short of a hardware failure. Viruses can cause damage to any number of software programs that you have on your
computer and reduce the productivity you are used to by slowing down the speed of your computer. The only cure for
this problem is to perform some form of virus removal tool and clean up your computer; if you do not catch the
virus early you may end up having to reformat your computer.
The Virus Uncovered
We have all heard the term computer virus, but how many of us really know what a virus really is
and where they come from? A computer virus is a program that is written by a programmer specifically with the
intention of causing damage to another person's computer. It can be in the form of spyware, or software that works
in the background and corrupts the data that you have stored on your hard drive and there are some that can give
someone in another country control of your computer allowing them to use it for illegal purposes.
For the most part modern viruses are used to target the software on your computer, occasionally
a worm or Trojan has been released that targets your hardware. If you think your computer may have become infected
with a virus, the first thing you need to do is to not panic. There are plenty of virus removal tools that are
designed to remove the viruses from your computer without having to completely reformat.
Virus Removal Tools
First you need to make sure that you actually do have a virus, the most obvious signs are that
your computer starts running slower and slower, perhaps you have started notice more errors than you are used to
seeing. You may have started experiencing your computer rebooting at random for no apparent reason or you start
getting the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. One other indicator would be experiencing tons of pop up windows
appearing on your screen. All of these are signs that you computer needs you to run your virus removal
software.
In the early days you would have to run this software manually every time you suspected you had
a problem. The modern antivirus software has virus removal tools built in and in many cases it runs automatically
every time your software scans your computer. You should always make sure that your software is completely up to
date. New viruses appear often on a daily basis and if you do not keep your software up to date your scans will not
pick up the latest fixes.
Start by running a full system scan and let the software run the deepest scan it is capable of.
Once it is done and if it has detected a virus most virus removal tools will give you instructions on how to remove
the virus. You must follow these instructions carefully as they are your best chance of removing the virus without
having to resort to reformatting your computer.
